In Our Own Voice Launches 2024 “I Am A Reproductive Justice Voter” Campaign
Initiative is designed to bring more Black voters to the polls during pivotal election year
Today, In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda and state partner organizations launched the 2024 I Am A Reproductive Justice Voter campaign. Throughout the 2024 election cycle, this initiative will engage Black voters in 12 states and mobilize turnout in support of policies that promote Reproductive Justice issues.
This year’s campaign builds on In Our Own Voice’s years of empowering Black communities through voter engagement using the Reproductive Justice framework and includes:
- Digital advertisements targeting Black voters and billboards in 12 states
- Circulating state-specific voter guides to over 700,000 Black women voters around the country
- The Black RJ History Walk installation, a traveling exhibit educating communities about the Reproductive Justice movement’s history and achievements
- Virtual panel events with Reproductive Justice and civic engagement leaders
“As we mark International Women’s Day today, we know that our vote is one of the most powerful tools we have to build a future that embodies Reproductive Justice principles,” said Regina Davis Moss, President and CEO of In Our Own Voice. “Black women are the largest voting bloc in the electorate, and our collective voice has the power to swing elections around the country. Black women overwhelmingly support expanding abortion access, but they are also voting with issues like economic justice, public health and freedom from discrimination in mind. Achieving policy change to ensure we can all make our own decisions about our bodies and our futures starts with electing Reproductive Justice champions who will prioritize the values and policy interests of Black women, girls and gender-expansive people. We are committed to reaching Black voters where they are and starting vital conversations about how Reproductive Justice impacts their lives to show how their choices at the ballot box can move the needle.”
The Reproductive Justice framework, developed in 1994 from the lived experiences of Black women, provides a unique lens for making choices at the ballot box. Voters who join the campaign will commit to voting for candidates who support a holistic Reproductive Justice policy agenda, including comprehensive reproductive health care, access to affordable contraception and abortion, the right to raise children in safe environments, health care equity, comprehensive sexual education and policies addressing the Black maternal health crisis.
