Groundbreaking reproductive justice report findings to be presented at the Caucus’s annual conference
WASHINGTON – In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda will conduct a policy briefing on the state of Black women and reproductive health as part of the 47th Annual Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Conference. In Our Own Voice Founder and Executive Director Marcela Howell will present the report, “Our Bodies, Our lives, Our Voices: The State of Black Women and Reproductive Justice,” which exposes how Black women’s rights are marginalized by both the right and left – and offers an action plan and policy recommendations.

WHAT: Briefing on “Our Bodies, Our lives, Our Voices: The State of Black Women and Reproductive Justice”
WHO: In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda leaders, partners, and other community activists, including:

Marcela Howell, founder and executive director, In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda
La Tasha Mayes, founder and executive director, New Voices for Reproductive Justice
Masonia Traylor, community advocate and black woman living with HIV since 2010
Brittany Mostiller, executive director, Chicago Abortion Fund

WHEN: Friday, September 22, 2017, 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
WHERE: Congressional Black Caucus 47th Annual Legislative Conference, Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Room 145A, 801 Mt Vernon Pl NW, Washington, DC 20001

The report combines comprehensive data with firsthand accounts of the lived experiences of Black women. It also examines the post-2016 elections criticism of “identity politics” that advocates an economic equality message focused on class to the exclusion of race and gender – and provides concrete actions policymakers can to address disparities.
