Black Women Leaders Commend Appointment of Rice to Top Domestic Policy Position

Statement by In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda President and CEO Marcela Howell

WASHINGTON — President-elect Biden named Susan Rice to head the White House Domestic Policy Council. Marcela Howell, president and CEO of In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda, issued the following statement in support of Rice’s appointment:

“We commend President-elect Biden for naming Susan Rice as chief of the White House Domestic Policy Council. Rice has an exemplary record of public service. Her experience — having served on the National Security Council and at the State Department in President Bill Clinton’s administration and as ambassador to the United Nations and national security adviser in President Barack Obama’s administration — will serve her well given diplomacy will be essential when working with Congress to advance President-elect Biden’s national domestic policy agenda.

“This is a critical moment in our country’s history as we face multiple crises with the coronavirus pandemic, economic downturn, climate change and the urgent demand for racial justice. Ms. Rice’s expertise will be impactful as we align national security of our country with the need to build our domestic and economic infrastructure.

“In Our Own Voice praises President-elect Biden for his excellent choice for his top domestic policy position. We encourage him to continue to appoint more Black women experts to his cabinet and to other high-level administration positions.”
