In Our Own Voice Statement on the 2024 Election Results
NATIONWIDE — In response to last night’s election results, In Our Own Voice President and CEO Regina Davis Moss issued the below statement:
“Make no mistake, last night’s election results are nothing short of deeply frightening for everyone who values our democracy, our fundamental human rights, and the future of our country. We know that attacks on voting rights, coupled with rampant misinformation campaigns, have been decades in the making with the sole intention of enabling a path to victory for the far-right. Aggressive voter suppression legislation enacted in multiple states like Georgia and Florida undoubtedly impacted the outcome of this election.
While there is a long road ahead of us, last night’s results also demonstrated that the majority of Americans want access to reproductive health care. We won abortion rights in seven states, and for the first time the U.S. Senate will have two Black women in the chamber — Senators-elect Angela Alsobrooks (D-MD) and Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE).
Now more than ever, it is crucial that we double down on our efforts to push back against the harmful policies in Project 2025 that will put Black women, girls and gender-expansive people at risk. In order to overcome extreme measures to control our bodies, our votes, our wealth and our collective future, the larger reproductive rights movement must work together like never before. We must take action and mobilize on the issues that matter most — affordable housing, access to quality health care and higher education, building generational wealth and justice reform. In Our Own Voice and our partners will continue our critical work to build our base of registered voters and advance Reproductive Justice policies.”
