In response to the United States Supreme Court’s decision to grant certiorari in the June Medical Services, LLC v. WASHINGTON — This week, three important bills to advance human and civil rights were introduced in the U.S. Congress. Yesterday, the EACH Woman Act was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Rep. Barbara Lee and in the Senate by Sen. Tammy Duckworth. The EACH Woman Act would ensure coverage — by private and government insurance — of all pregnancy related health care, including abortion.

Statement of In Our Own Voice President and CEO Marcela Howell
WASHINGTON –– Today, a federal court in Pennsylvania granted a nationwide injunction blocking the Trump administration’s attack on birth control. Last year, the administration announced new rules to eliminate guaranteed birth control coverage with no out-of-pocket costs under the Affordable Care Act.
The nationwide injunction comes on the heels of yesterday’s California court injunction covering 13 states and Washington, D.C. The Trump administration rules would allow employers to refuse birth control coverage if they have a moral or religious objection. These injunctions block implementation of the rule while the Pennsylvania and California cases continue to be litigated.

WASHINGTON- Today, In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum and the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health led the submission of a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee demanding that they oppose the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the U.S. Supreme Court. Over 30 reproductive justice organizations and allies who joined an amicus brief in Azar v. Garza, the D.C. Circuit Court case regarding a young immigrant woman’s access to abortion care, signed the letter. The letter outlines how Judge Kavanaugh’s dissent in the case demonstrates his complete disregard for the rights of immigrant women, their families and their agency.
