In Our Own Voice Celebrates Right To Make Reproductive Decision Victories in 2023 Elections
In response to yesterday’s election victories for reproductive autonomy in Ohio, Virginia and around the country, Regina Davis Moss, President and CEO of In Our Own Voice, released the following statement:
“It’s clearer than ever: Abortion is a winning issue at the ballot box. Tuesday’s election results mean that protections for not just abortion access, but a wide spectrum of reproductive health decisions will be the law of the land in Ohio. Meanwhile, thanks to Virginians electing policymakers aligned with our values, Virginia will remain a vital bulwark for abortion and reproductive care in the South at a time when access has been decimated across the region, disproportionately putting it out of reach for Black women, girls and gender-expansive people.
“We’re proud to have supported our partners, New Voices for Reproductive Justice in Ohio and Birth in Color RVA in Virginia, who implemented campaigns to organize voters in support of Reproductive Justice and push back against politicians who sought to deceive people about their efforts to take away their bodily autonomy and control over their futures. But we know there is still work to be done to ensure that all people are able to make their own decisions about if, when and how to have children, as well as the freedom to raise their children in safe, healthy environments. As we head into a new election cycle, we are doubling down on our work to ensure Black women, girls and gender-expansive people can continue to hold politicians accountable and vote for leaders and policies that center Reproductive Justice.”
