Narrative Power for Justice
Narrative Power for Justice

Shaping the stories that shape our lives, our policies, and our futures.

Narrative Power for Justice is an initiative of In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproducive Justice Agenda dedicated to advancing Reproductive Justice through narrative, cultural strategy, and storytelling. We focus on the stories that influence public understanding, policy decisions, and collective imagination — and on building the narrative power needed to sustain justice movements over time.

Why Narrative Power Matters

Dominant cultural narratives shape public understanding, policy priorities, and collective imagination. When stories about Black women’s autonomy, dignity, and belonging are missing or distorted, public support for justice-oriented policy declines. Narrative Power for Justice intervenes at this cultural level — deploying research, creators, and storytelling to shift beliefs before they influence policy or politics.

Our Strategic Approach Includes:

  • Rigorous research design and narrative framing grounded in cultural, media, and racial justice scholarship.
  • Creative partnerships with writers, filmmakers, and content creators to embed justice narratives into mainstream culture.
  • Narrative tools, briefs, and messaging guidance for the field.
  • Field learning spaces strengthening movement capabilities.
