In 2025, In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda commissioned PerryUndem to conduct a new survey, “The Lives and Voices of Black Adults Across 10 States.” This research explores how Black communities are navigating the changing policy environment under the new administration and identifies the top issue areas impacting Black adults in 2025.
Findings reveal that economic security and healthcare access remain the most pressing concerns, with data showing that Black women of reproductive age (18–44) continue to face the greatest systemic barriers to achieving Reproductive Justice. The poll also highlights the vital role of Medicaid, with more than 90% of respondents reporting that Medicaid has been important to them and/or their families.
This survey provides insights into:
- Daily economic and emotional pressures
- Outlook on life during the second Trump term
- Needs and aspirations for healthy families
- Views on reproductive health policies
- Respect, representation, and changing social norms
The goal of this research is to ensure policymakers and political leaders understand—and respond to—the realities, priorities, and values of Black voters. It also serves as a reminder of the collective power of Black communities in shaping the policies that define our future.
This poll includes findings from 5,000 Black adults surveyed between May and June 2025 across ten states. The survey was administered by Ipsos. The margin of sampling error ranges from ±5.7 to ±6.6 percentage points, varying by state.

In 2024, In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda commissioned Perry Undem to conduct a survey “The Lives and Voices of Black Families in 2024”. This poll was conducted among Black women registered voters nationally and in nine states. It provides a comprehensive view of the motivations of Black voters ahead of and during major election cycles with a focus on attitudes about Reproductive Justice.
The goal of this research is to motivate politicians seeking office to respond to the needs, values and perspectives of Black voters through a Reproductive Justice lens in order to earn our support. This polling also serves as a strong reminder to Black voters of the impact of our power at the ballot box.
This report provides findings from a national survey conducted among 1,005 Black adults from January 22 through January 27, 2024. The survey was administered by Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel. The margin of sampling error is + 3.5 percentage points. Other types of errors can contribute to overall survey error.

In May 2022, In Our Own Voice: National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda commissioned Perry Undem to conduct a survey among Black women registered voters nationally and in seven states (FL, GA, LA, OH, PA, TN, TX) about voting in the midterm elections.
The survey was conducted in May 2022 – before the school shooting in Uvalde, TX and prior to the Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. Wade. In September, In Our Own Voice asked pollsters to go back into the field and conduct additional interviews in the seven states to see where abortion, women’s rights, and gun violence / shootings stood on Black women’s issue priorities.
Results show that abortion rights is a higher voting priority across nearly all states. More voters include abortion in their “top 5” issues post-Roe. Black women are more likely (post-Roe) to vote for candidates who support abortion rights and access.
